Teacher Leadership
This year I was asked to be the Team Leader for my 2nd Grade team. This is a very important role and I take great pride in helping my team work together. I am responsible for conducting team meetings which involves relaying information between my team and our administration. I have to make sure all deadlines are met when it comes to any paperwork, testing, etc. Most importantly if there are any questions or concerns about 2nd Grade information, I have to be able to find an answer and/or solution and pass that on to whoever needs the information. Being a team leader means that I have to set an example for my team and all of our students.
In past years, I have been given the opportunity to participate in some leadership roles such as being the secretary for our PTA at a school in Garland and being asked to participate in the textbook adoption committee for Garland ISD. I have been asked to represent my schools at several different conventions and then come back and share that information with my coworkers. I am always honored to help out in any way I can.
I think teachers are automatically placed in leadership role because we have students and parents who look to us for help and information that will benefit each and every one of them. We have to be able to step up and do what we know is best for each of our students. I don't feel that I have ever been a natural leader in the spotlight, but I have always stepped up to any challenge I have been faced with and given it 110% of my best effort. I still strive to be more organized and punctual when it comes to having a leadership role because I feel these are areas where I can still improve.
